Paid time off

We recognize that your life outside of work is important to you. Dartmouth-Hitchcock provides many forms of paid leave to help you find a balance between your work and personal life.

Advanced practice providers

Vacation accruals begin upon date of hire. Vacation time is pro-rated for advanced practice providers who are regularly scheduled to work less than 1.0 FTE, as well as in the first and last year of employment (if a full year is not worked). Up to 2 weeks may be carried from one calendar year to the next.

CRNAs

Staff

Traditional time off benefits for vacation, sick time, and holidays are combined in a single category called Earned Time. Benefit eligible employees start accruing Earned Time with their first paycheck. The accrual rate is based on hours worked and is pro-rated if you work less than 40 hours per week. The annual accrual rate increases as your years of service increase, as shown in the table.

  • Full-time: 360 hours

Holidays

Dartmouth-Hitchcock observes 6 holidays per year; however, as an institution operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, staffing needs may vary.

Note: Based on your location and schedule, some physicians may also be eligible for a float holiday (President’s Day) to be taken on the day of your choice as approved by your supervisor.

Other paid leave

Other paid leave includes time off for certain military duty, jury duty, and bereavement leave.

  • Bereavement: Up to 5 days of paid time off will be provided for bereavement leave upon a death in your immediate family.
  • Illness: Advanced practice providers may receive salary continuation for days off due to illness until eligibility for long-term disability has been approved.
  • Jury duty: When serving jury duty, you receive your regular pay plus your jury stipend.
  • Military duty: If you need time away from work for certain military duty, you will receive the difference between your current salary and your pay for military service.

  • Jury duty: When serving jury duty, you receive your regular pay plus your jury stipend.
  • Military duty: It is the intention of D-H that employees who are called to active duty, military service are protected against serious financial hardship that could result from this eventuality. D-H supplements the employee’s military pay, if necessary, to ensure that the employee’s total income remains equivalent to the employee’s normal straight time pay. This compensation will continue for a maximum of 26 pay periods.

Professional development

To support your career and professional development, we offer time and financial support for continuing medical education, tuition reimbursement, society memberships, and job-related conferences.

Advanced practice providers

  • Continuing medical education (CME): Employees may be provided with up to 2 weeks and $5,000 every 2 years for attendance at conferences and seminars for professional development. Requests are reviewed and approved by each employee’s Department Chair. Eligible part-time employees receive a prorated allocation. Newly hired employees will receive a prorated allocation of time and dollars to reflect the first partial year.
  • Society memberships: All reasonable membership dues are paid in full (typically 3 to 4 memberships).
  • Tuition reimbursement: We provide up to $3,000 per year for degree-related programs. This benefit is pro-rated based on your FTE.

CRNAs

  • Continuing medical education (CME): Employees may be provided with up to 2 weeks and $5,000 every 2 years for attendance at conferences and seminars for professional development.   • Continuing medical education (CME): CME is available to physicians to provide time and financial support for professional enrichments such as meetings, conferences, journals, and books. Full-time physicians receive up to $6,000 biannually. Any unused money at the end of each period is forfeited. Full-time physicians receive 10 CME days per year. You may carry over up to 5 CME days from one year to the next.
  • Society memberships: All reasonable membership dues are paid in full (typically 3 to 4 memberships).

Staff

  • Professional development: Financial support is available for job-related certification exams, continuing education programs, conferences, memberships, and books.
  • Tuition reimbursement: Full-time employees receive up to $3,000 per year for job-related degree courses. This amount is pro-rated for half-time employees.

Wellness programs

We offer a variety of programs to improve and maintain your health, including health and wellness coaching options, fitness programs, life/stress management, and other educational resources.
