Lifestyle benefits include paid time off (vacation days, holidays, and other paid leave), and time and financial aid for professional development, including continuing medical education, tuition reimbursement, and society memberships.

Paid time off

We recognize that your life outside of work is important to you. We provide many forms of paid leave to help you find a balance between your work and personal life.

Advanced practice providers

Vacation accrual begins upon date of hire. Vacation time is pro-rated for those eligible advanced practice providers who are regularly scheduled to work less than 1.0 FTE, as well as in the first and last year of employment (if a full year is not worked). Up to 2 weeks time may be carried into the next calendar year.

CRNAs

Physicians

Staff

At Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics, traditional time off benefits for vacation, sick time, and holidays are combined in a single category called Earned Time. Benefit eligible employees start accruing Earned Time with their first paycheck. The accrual rate is based on hours worked. The annual accrual rate increases as your years of service increase, as shown in the table.

  • Full-time: 360 hours
  • Part-time: 40 hours

Holidays

We observe 6 holidays per year. However, as an institution operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, staffing needs may vary.

Note: Based on your location and schedule, some physicians and advanced practice providers may also be eligible for a float holiday (President’s Day) to be taken on the day of your choice as approved by your supervisor.

Other paid leave

Other paid leave includes time off for certain military duty, jury duty, and bereavement leave.

Advanced practice providers

  • Bereavement: Up to 5 days of paid time off will be provided for bereavement leave upon a death in your immediate family.
  • Illness: Advance practice providers may receive salary continuation for days off due to illness until eligibility for long-term disability has been approved.
  • Jury duty: When serving jury duty, you receive your regular pay plus your jury stipend.
  • Military duty: If you need time away from work for certain military duty, you will receive the difference between your current salary and your pay for military service.

CRNAs

Professional development

To support your career and professional development, we offer time and financial support for continuing medical education, tuition reimbursement, society memberships, and job-related conferences.

Advanced practice providers

  • Continuing medical education (CME): Employees may be provided with up to 10 days a year and $5,000 every 2 years for attendance at conferences and seminars for professional development. Requests are reviewed and approved by each employee’s Department Chair. Eligible part-time employees receive a pro-rated allocation. Newly hired employees will receive a pro-rated allocation of time and dollars to reflect the first partial year. Any unused days and money at the end of each period is forfeited.
  • Society memberships: All reasonable membership dues are paid in full (typically 3 to 4 memberships).
  • Tuition reimbursement: Up to $3,000 per year for degree-related programs. This benefit is pro-rated based on your FTE.

CRNAs

Physicians

  • Continuing medical education (CME): Physicians may be provided with up to 10 paid days per year and $6,000 every 2 years for attendance at conferences and seminars for professional development. Requests are reviewed and approved by each employee’s Department Chair. Allocations are pro-rated for physicians who work less than 1.0 FTE. Similarly, newly hired physicians will receive a pro-rated allocation of time and dollars to reflect the first partial year of service.
  • Society memberships: All reasonable membership dues are paid in full (typically 3 to 4 memberships).

Staff

  • Professional development: Financial support is available for job-related certification exams, continuing education programs, conferences, memberships, and books.
  • Tuition reimbursement: Full-time employees receive up to $3,000 per year for job-related degree courses. This amount is pro-rated for half-time employees.

Health and well-being programs

We offer a variety of programs to improve and maintain your health, including health and wellness coaching options, fitness programs, life/stress management, and other educational resources.
