APRNs provide primary care and are involved in a wide range of professional activities.

Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) provide primary care for patients within their licensed scope of practice. Although the majority of the work APRNs at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics provide is clinical practice, APRNs are also involved in these highly valued activities:

  • Clinical practice
  • Consultation
  • Education
  • Professional practice
  • Quality improvement
  • Research

APRNs are licensed by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing and must have passed a national certifying exam in their specialty area before applying for licensure. In addition, all new APRNs must have a master's degree. The majority of our advanced practice nurses are master's prepared.
