Mental Health Resources

Dartmouth Health offers a network of services to help employees maintain mental health and well-being.

Employee assistance program services

An employee assistance program (EAP) offers free, confidential, short-term counseling and consultation services for staff members, and their immediate family members. If you or another adult in your household needs mental health support, free support is available through the EAPs.

Our EAPs include:

Spiritual health (chaplaincy)

Human beings are spiritual beings as well as physical ones. Even people who do not think of themselves as religious often find that they feel strengthened and comforted by personal attention to their spiritual needs. Simply talking with someone who can understand the burdens of care can bring relief. The Department of Spiritual Health provides personal support, crisis intervention, spiritual care and guidance, short-term counseling, and liaison with local religious communities.

Extra support just for employees

To better support the mental well-being needs of employees working in the health system, Dartmouth Health has developed several services that are specifically for employees.

Dartmouth Health Behavioral Health Solution (DHBHS)

Dartmouth Health Behavioral Health Solution (DHBHS) was developed by employees for employees to meet the unique needs of our healthcare workforce. DHBHS provides exclusive access to mental health services for Dartmouth Health employees through Cobalt, a one-stop behavioral health and wellness resource. Cobalt is managed by the Employee Behavioral Health Department and is a confidential, easy-to-navigate online platform that can connect you with comprehensive behavioral health supports that are tailored to your individual needs.

As an employee, you can access Cobalt from your home or work computer, smartphone, or tablet. Think of it as opening your digital “front door” to all things behavioral health, including:

  • Individual virtual therapy/mental health counseling, as well as medication evaluation and management.
    • Note: These services are available available only to employees 18+ living in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Services are billed to insurance. The patient is responsible for any co-pays or remaining balance.
  • Self-guided digital media library
  • Free virtual education and support groups
  • Behavioral Health Navigators

Peer Support Program

The Peer Support Program offers clinicians the opportunity to talk with a specially-trained colleague about stresses at work and the emotional impact of caring for others. Whether dealing with an unexpected patient loss, malpractice claim, or any other stressful event related to caring for patients, the peer support will listen, share coping strategies, and help find additional resources if necessary. Participation in the program is voluntary and strictly confidential.

Support through your medical health plan

You can access information and services for mental health support through your Dartmouth Health medical health plan.

If you are enrolled in a Dartmouth Health medical insurance plan, LiveHealth Online can help if you or your family get sick or need medical attention during your summer adventures or travels. You and your enrolled dependents can see a board-certified doctor 24/7 from your phone, tablet, or computer. LiveHealth Online doctors can help with other things like fever or the flu, skin rashes, coughs, cold, and more. No appointment is needed and the doctor can even send a prescription to the pharmacy you choose.

Note: LiveHealth Online providers are not Dartmouth Health providers, but they are still in-network (Tier 2) for all Dartmouth Health medical plans.
